About us

The study of materials and their behavior, either in structural or electrochemical terms, is one of the most important topics for an engineer. Knowing how each material is affected by the different service parameters such as corrosion and tribology, is the key for the sucess of an engineering project. Considering that the surface of the materials is commonly the most affected area in the field it brings the urgent need of a complete understanding about the effects and damage that the environment may provide to it. That is where the Center of Surface Engineering, Tribology and Electrochemistry (CESTEq) comes in.

The CESTEq is one of the main research centers of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Federal University of São João del Rei (UFSJ). The center works with research & development and consultancy in the fields of surface engineering, corrosion, tribology, erosion and electrochemistry.

Among the main areas of activity are:

  • Atmospheric corrosion;

  • Soil corrosion;

  • Corrosion in CO2/H2S environments;

  • Corrosion under flow conditions;

  • Hydrogen embrittlement;

  • Concrete corrosion.

To learn more about all our areas of expertise, go to the RESEARCH section.

Commitment
  • The commitment of CESTEq is to develop works with reliability, with cordial service and agility, meeting all the high-quality requirements either for academia or the industry.

Mission
  • Training of specialized professionals of undergraduate, master, PhD and post-doctoral in the corrosion/electrochemistry field;

  • Development of scientific knowledge applied with corrosion issues;

  • Improve the research in Brazil reaching international relevance.
